Newport House

This is the project that brought Tony out to Oregon. The client had originally only wanted the existing carpet removed and some painting done. But, as more of the house was opened up, more significant issues were found. In the end, the entire house was gutted and remodeled. A large room in the rear of the house was turned into an art room. The master-bedroom had a significant amount of rot at the load-bearing 2×12’s that sat next to the chimney, along with a mold issue that had to be abated. The two other bedrooms were modified, one for a daybed and closet. The other, for an enlarged closet. A single bathroom in the back of the house was partitioned off and two bathrooms were created, one being the en-suite. The front bathroom was enlarged slightly into a laundry-room area to allow for a larger walk-in shower. The kitchen was entirely remodeled with new appliances. An oil heating system was replaced with a propane/electric system and an on-demand hot water system installed. A large deck was added to the back of the house, along with a 70’ staircase leading down to beach access. The house was re-sided with Hardie board and batten and the entire interior and exterior were repainted. The garage was sitting on a concrete pad that was sinking due to it being built over sandy loam. The pad was graded out best it could be and three footings were dug to support adjustable lally columns that supported a 4×8 beam that helped carry the roof load. The entire garage was gutted and rebuilt with custom cabinets and shelving requested by the client. A16’ wide custom California garage door was built and installed. Lastly, a large perimeter fence was installed with dual entry gates and a custom liftmaster remote opening system.
